The PS Audio PerfectWave (or DirectStream) DAC Mk1 with Network Bridge MkII is a high-end digital-to-analog converter known for upsampling all audio to DSD for conversion, using an FPGA for custom processing instead of off-the-shelf chips, and offering network streaming (Tidal, Qobuz, Spotify) via the Bridge II card for a computer-free experience, providing detailed, smooth, and musical sound with excellent detail retrieval and jitter reduction for a high-resolution digital front-end.
This video provides an overview of the PS Audio PerfectWave DirectStream DAC:
  • DSD Upsampling: Converts all PCM and DSD inputs to 20x DSD for processing, creating a pure DSD signal for analog output, resulting in a smooth, detailed, and jitter-free sound.
  • FPGA-Based Design: Features a Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) with custom Ted Smith code, avoiding traditional DAC chips for unique performance.
  • Network Bridge II: Adds network streaming (Tidal, Qobuz, Spotify, Roon Ready) and album art via an internal card, turning the DAC into a self-contained streamer.
  • Digital Lens Technology: Cleans up digital signals, stripping and replacing the clock to eliminate jitter for better accuracy.
  • Preamplifier Functionality: Includes zero-loss digital volume control, allowing direct connection to a power amplifier.
  • Sound Quality: Praised for providing finesse, detail, clarity, excellent timing, and a "nourishing," detailed, yet relaxed sound, contrasting with overly analytical or warm DACs.
